West Liberty United Methodist Church
Founded:1851
Current Membership: 91
In 1875 West Liberty was known as Woodford. The land was a part of a tract of woodland bequeathed by the late James S. Ridgely to his son, George N. Ridgely.
The structure served as a school house through the week. On Sundays the small room was used for church services.
West Liberty was recognized as Chapter Number 19119 of the Epworth League of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South Baltimore District, Washington Conference on December 8, 1898. (This league was organized by representatives of the Young People's Societies of the Methodist Episcopal Church, at Cleveland, Ohio, May 15, 1889, and adopted by the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, May, 1892).
On July 12, 1911 the trustees of the church brought the land from George N. Ridgely and Matilda J. Ridgely of Howard County, Maryland for a price of $82.50. The deed was granted to the trustees and their successors in office for the use and benefit of the ministry and membership of West Liberty Methodist Episcopal Church.
West Liberty has long been a haven, a refuge, and a place of joy to those who worship within its walls. It provides the root of the heritage of a number of families from the surrounding area. The church is now in a building program to build a multi-purpose center on to the church.
